Ramadan Calender: Day 26, Mortal Kiss: Day 12

Today's Ramadan item is a pillow for 75 starcoins, inspired by Wijdan Ali, she is a Jordanian Calligrapher and artist.

Wijdan Ali:

Ali was born in Amman, Jordan where she currently resides. She received her B.A. in history from Beirut University College in 1961, while studying art privately. She received a Ph.D. in Islamic art from the University of London in 1993.

Ali concentrates much of her artistic effort on themes of universal tragedy, particularly the tragic events in Arab history which took place in Carbala during the seventh century. In her art she develops the traditions of Arabic calligraphy in a modern format and forms part of the contemporary school of Arabic calligraphic painting. Her work, which has won awards in Belgium and France, is found in museums and private collections internationally.

In 1989 Ali edited Contemporary Art from the Islamic World. She is the director of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, which she founded. Some of the places she has had solo exhibitions are: London; Berlin; Amman, Jordan; Madrid; Pakistan; and the United States.

Now the issue is with the MORTAL KISS item, it's supposed to be a snowy white wolf, which i wanted so badly, for 25 stardollars (as usual: 0_0), here's the problem: when you try to buy it it shows a message that the item is no longer  available. Weird.

Ramadan Calender: Day 15

It's a vase inspired by Chafic Abboud, he's a Lebanese painter. The vase is worth 60 Starcoins. :)

Chafic Abboud:

Chafic Abboud was born in Lebanon in 1926 to a wealthy middle-class Lebanese family and his youth was an idyll of summers in the mountains, and winters in Beirut; at the time the ‘Riviera’ of the Middle East. There is little that is dark or melancholic, politicized or inflammatory in his work. Chafic Abboud is a pure artist, taking a still life, a landscape or a memory of his childhood and depicting it in a style that owes much to Abstract Expressionism – his works are always balanced, with one color complementing or offsetting another.

Having moved to Paris after graduating from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in 1947, Abboud frequented Andre Lhote’s workshop and was a pupil of the Cubist Master Fernand Leger.

With the end of the Second World-War, the Parisian art scene had moved towards Abstract Expressionism and Abboud’s style characterized by loose brushwork and a lack of figurative subject matter, reaffirmed the artist as an unmistakable child of the movement.

In 1952 he enrolled at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he studied drawing and engraving. In 1959 Abboud participated in the first Biennale to be held in Paris. He was awarded the Prix Victor Choquet in 1961, and consequently was granted solo exhibitions in France, Lebanon, Italy, Germany, Holland and Denmark. His works are found in the permanent collection of the Centre National d’Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, Paris and hanging on the walls of French government buildings. A catalogue raisonne of Abboud’s work has recently been published by Galerie Claude Lemand, Paris.

Abboud lived in Paris until his death in 2004.
